Topsoil Wilmington De
We deliver and spread topsoil, compost, mulch

Topsoil is the uppermost layer of soil, usually
the top 2 to 8 inches. Topsoil is generally sold by
the cubic yard. Topsoil is often preferred to be
free of weeds, plant disease pathogens, and is required
to contain stones below a certain diameter as determined
by sieving. Topsoil is rich in a substance known as
humus, an important food source for plants and
grasses. Healthy topsoil is dark brown, moist, and
crumbly (friable), with composted plant material and
rich earth. Topsoil is life itself for the flowers,
grasses, shrubs and trees that put down permanent roots
in the lots on which you build and live.

Topsoil Organic
Topsoil brims with worms, microorganisms, and
organic matter. Organic Matter: Organic matter is an
important component of topsoils. Organic matter
also tends to make soils easier to till. It has the
highest concentration of organic matter and
microorganisms, and is where most of the Earth's
biological soil activity occurs. Two or three
inches of organic matter tilled to a depth of 6 to 8
inches is a typical recommendation for topsoils low in
organic matter. Sources of organic matter include
screened compost, peat moss, manure, leaf-mold, rotted
sawdust and cover crops. The addition of organic
matter can greatly improve the soil’s physical
condition.
Lawn
As anyone finds after moving into a newly built
home, a yard full of "sterile" subsoil is a poor
substitute for healthy topsoil when it comes to growing a
lawn, shrubs, or a garden. Since the top soil is
generally removed during leveling and home construction,
you may need to buy topsoil, which is the fertile top
layer of soil in your yard that will support the lawn and
garden.
